Lt. Governor to Host Grand Rapids Town Hall Wednesday, June 24, on Government Streamlining
MEDIA ADVISORY
LANSING - Lt. Governor John D. Cherry, Jr. will be in Grand Rapids Wednesday, June 24, conducting the second in a series of town hall meetings to obtain public input on streamlining state government. The public is invited and encouraged to attend and participate in the town hall scheduled from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Grand Rapids Community College Calkins Science Center Auditorium, 226 Bostwick Ave NE. Lt. Governor Cherry will be available to the media on-site at 7:35 p.m. after the event.
As part of the Granholm administration's efforts to streamline state government, the lieutenant governor last month reported that a workgroup under his leadership has identified seven core functions of state government: public safety, education, public systems, well-being, sustainability, economic opportunity and prosperity, and efficiency and effectiveness. The lieutenant governor is now seeking input from citizens, state employees and legislators to hear their perspective on what services a streamlined government should provide.
